Digital Audio Broadcasting
DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting. The radio signals are broadcast digitally, as a series of 'zeros & ones' rather than as a series of waves as used by analogue radio.

Besides showing the station name many stations display the name of the song being played, programme information, and even news. This information is displayed on LCD displays, longer text such as news is scrolled.
Improved station selection
Rather than tuning to specific frequencies as is the norm with AM, FM & LW radio stations, with DAB you simply scroll through each available station by it's name.

Superior Quality
Because it's broadcast digitally, DAB isn't affected by the same interference that can cause problems for analogue radio, typically interference for analogue radio can come from adverse weather conditions or from other electronic appliances. It is important to note however that some areas may struggle to receive digital signals (see coverage above), which may lead to breaks in the signal or not being able to listen to certain stations at all. It's worth pointing out that the Sony CMT-BX70DBi can receive digital and analogue (AM & FM) radio, so all bases are covered!
Wider Choice Of Stations
National stations such as BBC Radio 1, Absolute, Classic FM and TalkSport broadcast in DAB. In the case of stations such as TalkSport that broadcast on the AM frequency, DAB allows you to listen to a much higher quality broadcast free from the usual hissing and crackling. And when you listen stations such as Absolute you will experience a similar quality broadcast to FM. Many BBC local radio stations also broadcast in DAB. Of course one of the major benefits of DAB is the number of additional radio stations that are only broadcast digitally, these include stations such as BBC 6 music, BBC Radio 7 and Planet Rock.
